Originally, 'friulane' were shoes made in the Italian region of Friuli. They were hand-sewn from discarded bicycle tires and scraps of fabric. These shoes then found their way to Venice, where they were first worn by gondoliers. Friulane shoes can be worn as slippers at home and outdoors in spring and summer.
